Torchlight 2 – A notch above the original

Torchlight 2 release by Runic games has been widely accepted by the gaming fraternity in the world, though there are always exceptions. Torchlight 2 became available for pre-purchase in April 2012, four months later Runic president, Travis Baldree announced on the official Torchlight 2 forum that the game would be released worldwide on September 20, 2012.

Torchlight 2 is the sequel to action RPG Torchlight which was released in 2009, the multi-player game features extended modding capabilities. Torchlight 2 continues the tradition of the previous variant with the same basic gameplay, but improves overland areas with multiple hub towns and a longer campaign.

The second version of the action game also introduces features like time of day cycles, weather effects, and a redesigned user interface. Players are given a choice to customise character appearance with options of sex, face, hair style and hair colour. Torchlight 2 features four playable characters namely, the Engineer, the Outlander, the Berseker and the Embermage. The three classes from the original Torchlight do not feature in the novel version as playable characters, but are depicted as non-playable characters.

The Engineer, formerly known as the Railman, is a multi-purpose character using ember-powered steampunk technology. The Engineer can be easily transformed into a character with grenades, walking mines and steampunk robots, only if the user wishes. The Outlander is a long range weapon expert with limited wizardry at his command. The character is a wandering nomad who can summon shadowlings from the broken corpses of the opposition.

The Berseker as the name suggests relies on the use of fists, fangs, and sudden bursts of destruction giving the character an advantage over the opponents. The Embermage is a character which deals in fire, thunderstorms, icy prisons, astral allies and is highly efficient in casting spells.

Torchlight 2 can be termed as the fight of good over evil with unadulterated action, blood massacre, and sorcery. The game has received global acclaim as Torchlight 2 received a score of 90 out of 100 as a result of a review from 21 professional critics validated by Metacritic.

When a game gets a 90 out of 100, then it seems that the game is a history maker.
