iOS 6 launches Apple’s new map application

Apple released iOS 6, the latest version of its operating system yesterday with more than 200 new features. The iOS upgrade includes the new Apple Maps application, Facebook integration, Passbook organization, more Siri features and languages, revamped calling system, support for Baidu search and others.

The iOS 6 release comes after a week of the unveiling of iPhone 5, Apple’s latest offering in the smartphone market. iOS 6 was released simultaneously for all Apple devices, namely, iPod Touch, iPhone 5 and iPad. Apple has discarded Google maps from iOS 6 and launched its own version of the map application, echoing different opinions from various technology fronts.

The new iOS update comes in the wake of Apple’s rising share prices after the release of iPhone 5. Apple users were utilising iOS 6 GM version or the beta release before the official iOS 6 release on 19 September.

Apple has been condemning the jailbreak software for its operating system, but iOS 6 release prompted the appearance of the jailbreak software on the market. All the jailbreak hopefuls received the good news when iPhone Dev-Team’s popular jailbreak tool Redsn0w was found applicable to the new iOS upgrade.

However, the jailbreak will only work on A-4 based iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4th generation as Apple has fortified all its new devices. The jailbreak software would not work on iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPod Touch 5th generation.

Apple’s iOS has been criticised in the past for no path breaking features, but Apple has completely revamped the new operating system. The upgrade of the operating system has sprouted an imminent question, Will the new iOS 6 match the standards set by Android software?

I Hate IOS 6. My battery life is now poopoo and takes forever to recharge. I miss G maps. I had hoped that the new IOS would give us some moding tools, But nooooooo I still have to look at the same bright WHITE screen with the same grey scratchy background and the same old icons all the time. Geez Apple give us some sugar and let us customize our ipad like the jailbreakers can. Now I can’t wait till IOS 6 is cracked. Whats with the same old 20 icon limit in the folders,, jailbreakers can have as many as they want in the folder, plus they can move as many icons at a time as they want to. They can color their folders with pictures and colors and adjust the color of their text all wonderful features that you seem to relish on denying us. Get a clue. or do you want to copyright my opinion too? I cant wait till a pad comes out that really rivals apple so I can dump crapple..
