The year’s most-awaited gadget…Coming soon on September 21

A Verizon employee has allegedly leaked information that the communications company has prevented its staff from taking holidays from September 21-30, sending out strong signals that the Apple’s ‘next best thing’ will launch on one of those days.

A strong indication for the release date being September 21 is that it falls on a Friday which would coincide with the iPhone 4S’ October 14 end-of-the-week debut last year.

Verizon has no presence in the UK, so speculations are wild that the September 21 date would likely apply to a host of nations like in the case of iPhone 4S which had a simultaneous launch in the US and the UK.

Anticipation as to what the next iPhone would look like would end on September 12, although many leaked parts that were assembled give a fair picture to know what to expect.

The smaller port than the 30-pin dock connector in the iPhone 4S means faster connection speed and a more reliable connection. The iPhone 5 is also rumoured to be thinner weighing in at 7.6mm, which is 1.7mm smaller than the previous iPhone iteration.

A phone that’s no wider but noticeably taller than the iPhone 4S is the likely candidate, sporting a 4-inch display that has a 16:9 aspect ratio, which would eliminate pesky black bars when you’re watching movies.

A bigger battery is tipped to be lurking inside, while a smaller connector dock and a repositioned headphone socket are likely. On the software side, expect iOS 6 and all its accompanying goodies, and possibly an extra row of home screen icons.
