HTC One features a 1080p display with 468 pixels per inch

The release of HTC One at the Taiwanese company’s New York event has unhinged many opinions about the new offering from the firm. Many have been calling it a new revolution in the display section of smartphones while some avenues are not happy about the camera featured in the smartphone. Here we take a look at the specifications, price and availability of HTC One.

HTC One Specs: The 4.7-inch 1080p Super LCD 3 display has been the centre of attraction for tech buffs as it leaves the retina display from Apple far behind. The 1920 x 1080 display hold more than 2 million pixels, yielding 468 pixels per inch (ppi), which is much greater than iPhone 5′s 326 ppi and Surface Pro’s 208 ppi.

In terms of design, the metallic construction of the HTC One gives the smartphone a different feel as the One cuts a relatively light figure, weighing in at 143 grams and measuring 5.4-inches. Dual speakers and the front camera surround the screen.

Coming to hardware and software, the new smartphone from the Taiwanese firm is packed with quad-core Snapdragon 600 from Snapdragon, clocked at 1.7 GHz and paired with 2GB RAM. HTC One is one of the first smartphones to comprise of this processor. HTC Sense 5 is introduced by the One and the device operates on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.


HTC One Camera: HTC is calling it the ultrapixel camera and it comprises of a a 4-megapixel BSI sensor and f/2.0 lens, which means that each pixel is meant to gather 300% more light than the existing smartphone sensors. The camera unit also houses optical image stabilization and HTC’s ImageChip 2 for HDR, 1080p and 60fps video.

What’s new in HTC One? The Taiwanese firm might be looking to make One the social sharing device with a combination of many sharing attributes. An interface known as BlinkFeed sits permanently on the main home page and brings the content from various publications and social networks like Twitter, Plurk, LinkedIn, Flickr, Zoe Share.

HTC Sense TV application makes it easy to watch TV on the mobile screen. The app will support all major US cable services along with Hulu integration, whereas, the UK will receive the services from Virgin Media, Sky, Freesat and Freeview. The BoomSound, dual front-facing loudspeaker might help in TV viewing.

HTC One Price and availability: UK online retailer, Clove has put up the smartphone for pre-order with a SIM free price of £510 including VAT. The handset will go on sale around the world on over 85 carriers after March 15.

Talking about HTC One, CEO Peter Chou said, “We had a few great devices, a lot of innovation, but we just need to let people know all of these HTC innovations. So today we are introducing the HTC One and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.” HTC has focused its efforts in building the One, but time will tell whether or not HTC One will be able to compete with the likes of Samsung and Apple smartphones.
