Surface RT – Microsoft’s entry in the hardware sphere

Microsoft Surface, the software giant’s foray into the tablet market has run out of its initial supply for the pre-orders. The £309 ($499) 32GB variant of Microsoft Surface RT is back-ordered by three weeks now. This Microsoft Surface tablet variant is the cheapest of all the versions and comes without a cover-cum-keyboard.

Microsoft started taking pre-orders for the £309 ($499) 32GB Surface RT yesterday along with two other variants of the tablet. The other two Surface RT models which are available for pre-order are a 32GB tablet with a Touch Cover for £371 ($599) and a 64GB model with that same cover at $699 (£433).

Microsoft Surface RT specifications include an NVIDIA T30 quad-core processor, a 10.6-inch multi-touch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768, 2GB RAM, 32 or 64GB storage space which is expandable. The Microsoft Surface RT has 720p rear and front-facing cameras with the details of the resolution still unknown.

Talking about the tablet, Panos Panay, the general manager of the Microsoft Surface said, “We had to use every ounce of space smartly. Everything in this tablet was intentional.” Microsoft immersed itself in the advertising of Surface tablet as it released the first ad pertaining to the tablet.

The ad aired on National TV on October 15 and featured a play on the click sound generated from the kickstand on the device and the magnetic keyboard.Microsoft Surface will release on October 26 along with the much awaited Windows 8 operating system. With Microsoft moving into the hardware sphere of technology, the competition in the tablet market is bound to increase.
