Google and Samsung might be eyeing Apple’s dominance in the tablet market

Google Nexus 7 is alleged to get an upgrade soon as it is speculated the Google and Samsung will be joining hands for a novel Google Nexus tablet. The Nexus tablet might be called the Google Nexus 10.1, hinting at the size of the screen of the tablet. The new Nexus tablet might be a direct competition for the existing Apple’s 9.7-inch iPad.

Google and the South Korean giant have collaborated earlier which resulted in the creation of Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. Google had earlier released Nexus 7 in partnership with Asus and was rumoured to build a cheaper variant of the Nexus tablet. The information about the 10.1-inch Nexus tablet comes from Richard Shim, an analyst at NPD DisplaySearch.

The information also suggests that the Google Nexus 10 will have a screen density which would be higher than that of the third-generation iPad. Apple’s newest iPad has a 2048 x 1536 screen resolution (264 PPI), whereas Google’s offering will reportedly have a 2560 x 1600 display (299 PPI). The price and the release date of the new Nexus tablet are still in contention with the rumours of the release of the Nexus 10.1.

The tablet market is growing in competition as software giant, Microsoft is ready to launch its tablet, Surface on October 26. The iPad mini is rumoured to release, thus providing competition to Amazon Kindle and Nexus 7 in the small screen segment of the tablet market. Nexus 10.1 might challenge the dominance of Apple’s iPad in the tablet market.

With the speculations of the new Nexus tablet, it seems like Google and Samsung have joined forces for defeating the common enemy, Apple. What do you think?
